Painting Joy, Sometimes Anger, Always Attitude

I am a self-taught painter drawn to animals as expressive characters…most often angry cats and unapologetically happy dogs. My work leans into emotion over realism, using bold color, simplified forms, and exaggerated moods to capture personality rather than perfection.

Cats and dogs recur not just because they’re familiar, but because they’re honest. An angry cat doesn’t pretend, and a joyful dog doesn’t hold back. I’m interested in that emotional clarity, and in how animals reflect the feelings we recognize in ourselves.

Painting is something I do simply because I love it. I enjoy the process, and I enjoy creating pieces that make other people smile, laugh, or feel a little lighter. Working in acrylic allows me to be intuitive and flexible, responding to color, mood, and energy as the piece develops. My approach is instinctive and playful, guided more by feeling than by rules.

Whether grumpy or delighted, I aim to make work that’s approachable, expressive, and full of character. If a painting brings joy to myself or to the viewer, then it’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do.
